PRIMARY BATH

Project brief: Clients would like a primary bath inspired by their favorite movie: 1958’s Auntie Mame starring Rosalind Russell. Using the apartment’s Danish Modern transformation as a jumping-off point, this Primary Bath embraces Scandinavian and contemporary elements - and Mame’s pink Marie Antoinette-inspired bedroom decor - to bring together a soothing oasis fit for Mame herself. The architecture of Alvar Alto was also incorporated in the skylight over the tub, which dips into the space and out the other side in a similarly pyramidal form. Clerestory windows (one over the shower retracts for ventilation and an open-air feel during warmer months) provide light. Slender apertures on either side of the sink provide light while preserving privacy.
